Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, Here There Be Dragons

On 11-11-11 gamers will get to travel to the land known as Skyrim. This is the setting for the fifth game in The Elder Scrolls series and fans are going to love what Bethesda Game Studios has in store.

The last offering was a little game called Oblivion. Gamers spent countless hours on hundreds of role playing quests that spanned an area of 16 square miles. It was a huge open world where players could do just about anything that they wanted, and go anywhere that they wanted, at anytime. Elder Scrolls V Skyrim promises to be no different in that respect, but technology has grown significantly since Oblivion, so you can expect huge improvements on every aspect of the game.

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim is a role playing game at its core. You can play from a first person perspective or you can play from a third person perspective. You can switch the point of view at anytime during gameplay. You can level up your character by completing quests. You can use weapons, your fists and magic to complete your goals and you can do it anytime you want. The free roam aspect of these games makes them so unique and it ensures a different scenario every time you play.

There is one thing that is different in the Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, one big, scale covered, difference. There are dragons in the Elder Scrolls V Skyrim and they play a huge role in the story. They will swoop in from above and attack you at any given moment. You can choose to stay and fight or run! If you run, the dragon will follow you. No place is safe. It will be a battle just trying to get away from the winged beasts. If you chose to stay and battle the dragon, you will have a fight on your hands unlike anything seen in a video game.

When you defeat the dragon, your character absorbs the soul of the dragon. The dragon’s soul will give you powers and a new gameplay mechanic called, “shouts.” These shouts are the language of the dragons and each shout consists of three different words that when used by the player have a very powerful affect. Some can be used as weapons or a means of defeating enemies.

Shouts can only be learned by someone who is Dragon born and your character is. Dragons are not the only way to learn shouts either. There are walls buried in ruins and old temples that are covered in dragon script. Finding all of these locations will be difficult as you battle your way through people, monsters, animals and hordes of other things.

This is just a very small sampling of what you can expect from the world of the Elder Scrolls V Skyrim when the game hits store shelves this fall. Get ready to say goodbye to your home life, because once you step into the world of the Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, you will not want to leave.

I just keep watching the trailer over and over because I can’t wait to fight dragons! Morrowind and Oblivion were both great and Skyrim is going to blow them out of the water.
