Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition
November 15th 2001, was a day that changed gaming history. Many gamers today may not know why this day is so significant. This was the day that Halo Combat Evolved was released. It helped put the Xbox console in houses all over the United States. Once you picked up the “Duke” controller ( This was the original Xbox controller. It was nick named The Duke, because of its size. It was huge! ) and stepped into the shoes of The Master Chief your gaming experience changed forever.
Halo Combat Evolved: A Brief History Lesson
Halo Combat Evolved was the first real successful FPS game to appear on a home console system. It had a deep engaging story, huge beautiful landscapes, crazy physics, engaging enemies, drivable vehicles, and most importantly great game play.
Most gamers swore that they would never play an FPS game on the console. They did not want to give up the ultra tight controls of the mouse and keyboard combo, but once they got used to the controls in Halo, things changed. Games on the Xbox 360 would not be where they are today if it were not for that one history changing game, and exactly ten years later on November 15th, 2011, gamers all over the world will get to re-live the experience.
Halo Combat Evolved: Relive The Adventure!
Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition is set to hit the store shelves just in time for the holiday season. This is much more than the original game. It has been completely enhanced and remastered. Here is the important thing though, the underlying game play mechanics that made Halo Combat Evolved such a success, have not been touched.
Bye Bye Bungie.
In the past ten years a lot has happened with Microsoft and Bungie. Bungie is the company that originally created Halo Combat Evolved. They are no longer in the picture. Bungie has washed their hands of the Halo franchise in hopes of world domination through a yet to be announced MMO.
A New Face.
So who is left holding the Halo franchise? Microsoft has been busy assembling an internal Halo development team. This is the team that will be responsible for everything Halo related in the future. The name of this internal team is 343 Industries, borrowing the name from one of Halo’s most annoying characters, 343 Guilty Spark. Halo fans might panic at the whole idea of a new company taking over the Halo franchise, but rest assured, Halo is in excellent hands.
Back To Halo, Literally.
This time around, when gamers step back into Halo Combat Evolved things will look and sound much different. All of the visuals have been redone in High definition. Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition looks like a game from this generation, but the game plays exactly the same.
343 Industries has accomplished this by running two game engines at the same time. All of the old code is there, but sitting on top is a new graphical engine that cranks out the high def visuals, and with the touch of a button you can change the visuals back to the way they were in the original game. This is called “Classic Mode,” and it is amazing to see the visual changes.
All of the music and sounds have either been re-recorded or remastered as well. No expense was spared on re-creating the sounds in Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, in fact all of the sound was redone at the legendary Skywalker Sound Studios. That’s right Skywalker Sounds, the home to every Star Wars sound ever created. Things should sound just fine.
Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition Game Changes
Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition does have some changes, but they are all good. You will be able to play co-op over Xbox Live. Play through the entire campaign with a friend. There will be achievements too. Rack up that Gamer Score. Most of the original Halo multi-player maps are redesigned and re-envisioned for play over Xbox Live. This part of the game will use Halo Reach’s multiplayer game engine, so it is different. There will also be terminals hidden throughout the game that will reveal some of the back story for Halo 4. There is even rumored Kinect support, but no one knows for sure what type of Kinect support the game will feature.
Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition is set to hit store shelves November 15th, 2011. Are you ready to re-live the Halo Combat Evolved adventure?
