Call of Duty Has Become A Gaming Legend

Call Of Duty as a game series has carved through the war ridden first person shooter terrain to make its way to the top. It has been a long hard road full of explosive triumphs, and devastating losses. The winning game play has stayed close to the same, but the stories, environments, weapons and people have all changed with each and every version that has made its way into your video game system.

The current game in the series is Call Of Duty Black Ops. It was developed by Treyarch. On opening day, Call Of Duty Black Ops sold around 7 million copies and brought in around 360 million dollars. That rivals most major motion pictures. It sales were split quite unevenly between the Xbox 360 and the PS3. The Xbox 360 took a whooping 59% of sales, while around 36% of sales were divided among the other consoles. Xbox 360 users are currently the hot spot for the Call Of Duty series.

Gamers did not leave much time for sleep, or food. They have logged an impressive 600 million hours of time playing Call Of Duty Black Ops. Activsion, the games publisher says that this equals around 68,000 years of steady game play, and Black Ops is still not done just yet. A new piece of DLC entitled, “Black Ops Rezurrection” is set to hit Xbox Live soon. This should be enough to keep hungry Call of Duty fans happy until the next installment, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.

Problems on the horizon?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 has seen some serious development problems. Half way through development two of the founding members from Infinity Ward were fired. Much of the company followed the two founding members leaving Activision without much of its development team. Two new development teams have stepped in to try their hands at Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Sledgehammer Games has taken on the campaign, and Raven Software has taken on the multiplayer action. What kind of affect will this have on the game? Only time will tell.Call of Duty Elite

Call of Duty Elite?

Call of Duty Elite is something new for the series. It is a service that comes with Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3. It has some free aspects to it, but for the most part Call of Duty Elite is going to cost gamers more money. The question on everyone’s mind is, how much is Call of Duty Elite going to cost? Activision is being pretty tight lipped on the whole price issue. They have issued no formal pricing structure. Will it be a one time fee? Most gamers think that it will not. It looks like Activision wants their piece of the online pie. Xbox Live is full of micro transactions, why can’t one of the most popular games on the online service have some sort of fee that goes directly into the publishers pocket? Will Call of Duty Elite have a monthly fee, and most importantly, if it does, will you happily open your wallet and pay? Gamers will learn more when Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 ships this fall.
