ASUS Xtion PRO, The First Kinect Clone Arrives On The Market But With A Catch

With every successful product, there are clones that appear on the market. Microsoft has seen a huge success with their controller free gaming device called, Kinect. With Kinect, the player’s body becomes the controller. Now there is another controller free device on the market. It looks almost exactly like Kinect, it operates the same way, but this motion free controller is for the PC only. With the ASUS Xtion PRO, you can navigate your PC by only waving your hands in the air.

It was only a matter of time. The whole idea of never having a controller is great. Take the iPad for instance. It is a great device. It requires no pointing device like a mouse. You just simply touch the screen. Children can instantly sit down with an iPad and use it. They don’t need instructions, because touching the screen to have some sort of reaction is common sense. It is what people want to do.

What could be easier? How about not touching anything? How about just pointing your finger at the screen from a few feet away, or just waving your hand through the air while you sit comfortably on the couch. There is no remote control. There is no mouse. There is not actual physical connection between you and the PC. This is ground breaking, and breaking boundaries at the very same time.

ASUS Xtion PRO, The First Kinect Clone Arrives On The Market But With A Catch

This type of technology is in its infancy. This technology will soon become standard in every single television and PC. Take the web cam for instance. These used to be large bulky accessories. With time, technology has made the web cam much smaller, and now they come standard in every single laptop, smart phone, and tablet device. The same will be true for this controller free technology. The electronics for these devices will get smaller and smaller. They will perform better and better. They will be able to interpret something as simple as a wink of an eye.

There will no longer be any need for a remote control for your television. You will no longer need a mouse or any other pointing device for your laptop. This is electronic evolution at its best. We have now become completely physically disconnected from video game systems, televisions and computers.

Microsoft and Kinect allow you to play video games, video chat and navigate your way around the Xbox 360. The ASUS Xtion Pro offers up something different. It allows you to create with the technology. Once your game or App is created, you can then sell it in the upcoming marketplace.

How do you think Microsoft will react to this competition in their home market? Microsoft has other problems that are a little more important. They are currently being sued by Impulse Technology. Impulse Technology states that Microsoft’s Kinect device violates seven of its patents. Game publishers that have developed games for the device are also mentioned in the law suit. Will all of this competition , and lawsuits leave consumers left holding a remote control, or will the future be controller free?
