My 3 and 5 year old sons enjoyed this game immediately. It’s very easy to understand, navigate, and it relies on the stylus. The 5 year old unlocked several games within 30 minutes and it continued to hold his interest. It’s great to see the kids have so much fun with a game that doesn’t involve killing something with a fireball.

My wife loves this game, my youngest son still has to discover it. It comes with a free baby and a 10 dollar gift cert you can use on future games. Gameplay is easy and addictive. If you like Zhu Zhu pets you will enjoy this game. Just dont expect mind boggling hard quests.

I agree with the review before me, my daughter is 5 and easily figured out the game. It’s not very complicated but it keeps her interest and thats what counts. She loves caring for her Zhus! I would recommend this if your child is young and loves the Zhu Zhu pets. But for an older child I would pass on it.

My son bought this game with his birthday money. If we had to do it over again, he’d buy the regular non-special edition version of the game or perhaps just rent it.

The special edition version of the Zhu Zhu pets game comes with a baby pet. The baby is made of hard plastic, coated in fuzz. They are supposed to move like a micro machine car, on a ball bearing.

We have some problems with our pet. Ours came with a scratch on the side of the pet, with a chunk of the fuzzy layer missing. Accidents in packaging happen, so we shrugged it off. Then we discovered that the pet does not move. The bottom of our pet is not smooth, and when placed on a hard surface the ball bearing disappears completely into the body. This pet will not roll across any surface. I don’t know if this is a fluke or if they are all this poorly made.

Although the box is about the size of two DS game cases, there was no case in the box. Just the game card stuck in a cardboard slot with the booklet behind it. This is the thing that bothers me most of all. I don’t care as much about the defective pet as I do the lack of a case.

As far as the gameplay goes, it is a cute game but very simple. There is not much to it as far as goals or strategy goes, no reading involved, to time limits to collect items on levels, very little critical thinking required. It is a basic game most appropriate for ages 4-6.

I know this special edition game was purchased for my 10 year old niece, who is a big Zhu Zhu fan. I hope her pet works properly and is not damaged. Once everything has been unlocked, I don’t know if there will be enough to keep an older child interested in playing the game.

We gave this to our three year old daughter last night (she will be four in July). She was able to figure the game out quickly with limited assistance from us. You begin by taking care of one little hamster, feeding, exercising, taking to toilet, watering, etc, and then you can play games that unlock other levels including more hamsters, games, etc. After playing for forty five minutes, she had three hamsters, and we put them to sleep for the night simply by closing the DS. This morning she played for about twenty minutes and already earned a fourth hamster. It is a cute, simple game that I would recommend for younger children. The hamsters have little icons that appear near them showing you when they need food, sleep, play, etc. so there is no reading involved, other than simple things like yes or no, which they learn quickly. Our daughter’s favorite part of this game is the ability to collect lost little baby hamsters. She has only found one, and it stays in the nursery, but just from last night until this morning, he had grown, so I suspect that it will join the other hamsters before long. As we have only had the game one day, I can’t tell how long the fun will last, but I am certainly happy with the purchase and would highly recommend it to other parents looking for clean, simple fun on the DS for their little ones. One note on the free little hamster, he is cute, but will wear quickly as his “fur” wears off in play. We have none of the Zhu Zhu Pets and our daughter isn’t aware that they are a retail item, so we can’t say how the free one compares to the hamsters for sale separately.
