Got this for the PS2 because its currently the only major console I own right now. For a PS2 Star Wars game, its actually quite fun. The gameplay tends to be a little clunky at first, since there are far too many moves you can make with far too few of the controls. As a result, you make quite a few unintended moves. However, once you get a knack for how they work, and you get a semblance of control, the fun factor increases.

The game is based on the current Clone Wars cartoon, and falls in between seasons I and II. I’m about halfway thru it, and the story is typical Star Wars fare. The Separatists have developed a new superweapon, and the Jedi have to destroy it. However, the story enables you to play as a variety of characters. From the obligatory mainstays of Anakin and Obi-wan, to fan favorites like Mace Windu and Aayla Secura, and even varies it a little by letting you take control of some clone troopers. Going a step further, there are times when your character will take control of vehicles, such as the STAP and the one-man walkers. But, going back to the clunky control scheme, these areas are only mildly entertaining.

Given the fact that you will die a lot, the designers thankfully have allowed for unlimited lives, and reaching the next checkpoint, where your character will respawn, is mostly fairly easy. The stages are well designed, though a bit repetitive, but with nicely rendered backgrounds there’s plenty of planetary Star Wars scenery to enjoy. Collectible articfacts and orbs are scattered about the various stages giving an incentive for exploration.

The graphics are nothing cutting edge, pretty standard for the PS2, especially for a game like this. It seems to me that the game was rushed into distribution, to capitalize on the release of the Season I DVDs and the new season premiere. However, there is fun to be had. It plays a lot like Jedi Power Battles, which, for me, was one of the best Jedi fighting games ever. To finally have another chance to play as Jedi and dispatch droid enemies with cool lightsaber action is enough incentive to play this game.

To rent or buy will probably depend on your love of Star Wars or appreciation for top notch gaming. I have to say, this is mostly a game for Star Wars fans.

This has got to be the most disappointed XBOX 360 experience I’ve had. First of all, as noted by other reviewers, the graphics and gameplay are disappointing. This is really no improvement upon the old Revenge of the Sith game, and in many respects is inferior. I like that you can choose your Jedi from the outset rather than having to unlock them through gameplay, but that really isn’t enough to redeem the price paid for the game. And unlike Revenge of the Sith, there is no battle arena where you can choose your Jedi and Sith and go at it.

I can’t say anything about the Clones. It seems like a nice twist, getting to play a Clone, but I can’t actually do that as I can only make the first two acts of the Ryloth campaign work. Once I finish II and click on III, nothing happens. Nothing. I have tried contacting Lucas Arts but they’re apparently in a Galaxy far far away, because they don’t answer. I tried the phone support, but they don’t list this game. If you go to Yoda’s 24-hour help desk, there is no actual 24 hour help desk – nobody there. If you find a way to post a message, nobody gets back to you or acknowledges that you left a message. If you try LucasArts technical support, nobody checks the forum. I’ve had a message up there for two days now and nothing. In a word, there is no possibility of technical support for this already inferior product. I don’t know if anybody else has had this problem, and I’ll probably just have to take it back to Best Buy, but it would be nice to know that if you had problems there was actually some sort of technical support offered. LucasArts apparently doesn’t care – and therefore, they can kiss my dollars goodbye.

This game has to be one of the best star wars games for the wii ever created. Not only can you be a Jedi and beat up guys with a lightsaber, but you can also become a clone trooper and shoot bad guys with your blaster. This new dimension in star wars gaming really really gives it an edge over other star wars games.

    Pros of being a Jedi

-it really uses the wii motion controls making you feel like you really are anikin or obi-wan

-you can tour around the Jedi temple and take part in various training exercises

-you are very powerfull, some enemies you can defeat with one upper cut stroke of your lightsaber

    Cons of being a Jedi

-Your arms really start to get sore after a while so you can really only play this game an hour a time

    Pros of being a clone

-It is very much like other shooting games except you can play in third person or first person

-It is fun shooting droids on the wii for the first time

    Cons of being a clone

-It does not implament the wii controls vey much all you do is point the wii remote and shoot.

The other aspects of the game are great too. The graphics are very crisp and the plot is a good branch off the second star wars movie. All and all this is a superb game and any true star wars fan should buy it

Star Wars the Clone Wars Republic Heroes is a fun game, but there are downsides. The great thing I liked was the story line, it’s smooth and you play different characters in each chapter. There are three main settings, eight Jedi, and the Clones. You play as whatever the Wii had originally decided, meaning that if the chapter is directed towards the Clones’ viewpoint, you play as the clone. It’s a two player game with drop in and out features. I’d recommend this game for older kids or teens. It’s simple enough for ten year olds, but not complex enough for seventeen year olds. The game play is fun, there are multiple combos you can achieve when fighting. Also, after you finish a particle section/ chapter of the game you can go back and play as any Jedi or Clone you’ve previously unlocked.

The problem with this game is the camera angle. As mentioned before, the graphics are the same as in the movie and T.V show, however you don’t have any camera angles. It felt a lot like the on line “Path of the Jedi,” camera angles. The packaging showed multiple angles, but this is false. It can be hard to jump, but you just need to look for a little blueish dot of where you could possibly jump and hope for the best.

Overall this game is fun, but is quick and the graphics aren’t the best. I would still recommend it for Star Wars the Clone Wars fans, the storyline is best!

Unfortunately, what seems like a natural opportunity to extend the experience of the Clone Wars cartoon series turns out to be wasted in every way. The controls, level design, camera direction and AI in this game are all so painfully bad that I’m actually a little surprised it got past the quality control department at LucasArts. The forward progression that you are constantly prompted to (by Yoda who for some reason freezes your screen about every 15 seconds in the first level to explain obvious things to you, i.e. you have a lightsaber that you can use) is confusing, the camera betrays you regularly by shifting its position and zooming at unexpected moments (which makes aiming all but impossible for the shooting sections), and the special abilities such as “droid-jacking” are essentially useless because they’re so weak and frequently hard to perform. The game does a lot for you, trying to make jumping and combat easy by letting you button mash, but for a game that seems like it wants to play itself for you it’s surprisingly difficult to manage your character in or out of combat. And don’t expect your computer controlled padawan to help you in any of the battles, mine just stood there looking dazed half the time and died repeatedly during the first boss battle without even attempting to fight.
