Ratings: (1-5) (from a 4-yr-old perspective unless noted)

Educational: 2 (rated from parents’ perspective)

Minimal, which was disappointing. This game is on several so-called “educational” lists, but it’s slightly less educational than the TV show. No work on colors, numbers, letters, or words. Minimal work with sounds and logic (“Click” the camera with his super microphone is occasionally featured, and you have to chose which tool the Backpack turns into). There is, of course, hand-eye coordination, paying attention to details, 2-D spatial reasoning (remembering where you are and not getting lost), and partial-shape recognition, all of which are common in most video games. My son (J) can very quickly spot clues partially hidden on screen, or partially off-screen. Especially the extra-fun skateboard areas (indicated by a slightly different color on the path) and the dinosaur slide (recognized the instant the tip of the nose appears on screen).

    Playability: 5

My son’s first real video game. He’s had a V-tech educational game system for a few years, but that’s not even in the same league. I sat beside him to start, and helped him perform some actions. The on-screen help was extremely useful; the first time you encounter any situation, the game jumps to a cut scene where Diego explains the required action – these scenes can be skipped if you want. J quickly learned to do what Diego said, and to watch the little guy in the lower-left corner. After a short amount of time he didn’t need me any more, except when he occasionally got stuck.

    Fun: 5

He LOVES the game. Diego occasionally did tricks while in the air (jumping, on a pogo stick, or on a skateboard), and J quickly figured out that he could sometimes influence these tricks using the controller. He’d intentionally go backwards in the game so he could slide down the dinosaur, ride the skateboard, or hit a series of multiple fly-trap jumps many many times.

    Overall: 4

The lack of educational content is disappointing and I wish I could rate as 3.5. But it’s easy to learn, fun to play, and my 4-yr-old loves the game. So it gets a 4.

We just bought this game for our 4 year old daughter who loves Go Diego Go. While this was probably a good choice for her to get used to the whole Wii system, the games are so short that they barely hold her attention. After a few days she has become bored with it. We are moving on to Littlest pet shop now. Like another reviewer posted this game is very forgiving for the little ones who tend to make more mistakes because the remote controls are very sensitive to motion.

We bought a Nintendo Wii system for Christmas and chose the Go, Diego, Go!: Great Dinosaur Rescue for our son who just turned 3 years old. This was a great choice for him. The game has Diego and his sister Alicia tromping through the jungle with a myasaurus on a dinosaur rescue.

What I loved about this game:

    1) The game is very intuitive with my three year old able to play most of it without help.

    2) The player uses the Wii remote to make Diego move by jumping up and down, swimming, pushing, and lots of other actions. As a mom who wants to get the kids off the couch, this game has a lot of movement.

3)There is a section of the game called “Prehistoric Racers” that allows my 3 year old and 5 year old to use two Wii remotes and race against each other. It’s an easy way to allow both to play a game at the same time.

    4) When an activity might be too much for a little one, an icon flashes on the screen that informs that another person can grab a Wii remote and help.

    What I didn’t like…

    1) It seems a little repetitive to me but I doubt that my three year would complain about that.

    2) I can see that if I let the kids play this game for a long time at each sitting, they will quickly move through all the adventure.

    Pros:

Great starter game for someone new to video games.

Interactive plot that kept my 3.5 year old interested.

    Exciting animals my son likes

    Cons:

Relatively easy for anyone with experience to games

    Relatively short

    Who should buy:

Any parent that wants to introduce their kids to video games with an intuitive kid friendly interface. Since it is a video game the parent should supervise their child and limit time spent playing.

This is by no means a highly educational game (at least no more than the show), but my son loves it. He is 3.5 years old and was able to get the controls pretty quickly. It is important for kids not to get too discouraged early on starting something new, and this game is great for that.

He played through one of the adventures in about 2 to 4 hours if I remember correctly. There are controls for the parent to assist, but we never used those; we just sat with him and helped him whenever he ran into trouble he couldn’t figure out on his own. It was challenging enough to be stimulating for him, but easy enough for him not to get discouraged. He will probably play through it again by himself. We all know children like to repeat things many times at this age for learning.

I don’t usually write reviews, but my 3 year old has so much fun with this game, I had to let other parents know. After about an hour of playing, my son was able to master this game by himself. He is so proud he has a game he can do without help.

This game has great graphics, even on a large screen tv. It gives lots of praise, and is very forgiving if he runs into something (ie, a tree, or log floating in water, etc). It doesn’t “kill off” someone and make you restart from somewhere.

Those who love dinosaurs will love this also, as my son is thrilled at the idea of flying on the back of a pterydon, sliding down the back of a bronchiosaurus (sp?), and swimming on the back of a myasaurus. He will play this for over an hour at a time, which is a big deal, and it’s great to see him jumping, climbing vines, swimming, digging in sand for tresures, climbing trees to get food for a dinosaur, and etc.

I was afraid it was almost too easy, but he loves it and plays it over and over. Would definitely recommend to anyone not sure what to get a toddler. They also have settings where you can stand behind the child and assist them without them really knowing…in case they start struggling or getting frustrated. Very happy with this purchase!!
